「Venus with a Veil」

Renoir, the great master of impressionist painting, launched into sculpture in 1903. He produced voluptuous nude women which look as if they had come out of the paintings of his later years. Since he fell ill in 1912 and became unable to hold a paintbrush, he worked more aggressively than before, with the assistance of Richard Guino who reproduced Renoir's sketches faithfully into 3-D. This piece was created during that period.

Auguste Renoir

Renoir is one of the most popular painters in Japan. His sculptures are not so well known as his paints of girls and nude women full of active colors. It was in 1903 at age over 60 when he started sculpture, and the peak was from 1913 to 1915.
